The Provincial Council of A Coruña (Diputación de A Coruña) in Galicia, Spain, has invited experts and best practices from across Europe to Ferrol to promote the development of the important cultural heritage of the fortified monuments of the municipalities of Ares, Ferrol and Valdoviño. As an important naval base and shipyard, the natural harbour of Ferrol was already heavily fortified during the Spanish Armada. Numerous batteries with impressive armaments followed in the 20th century.
