Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, FORTE CULTURA has been supporting its Ukrainian partners with various activities. For example, a fundraising campaign on betterplace.org was launched to finance urgently needed equipment for the Medzhybizh fortress in order to protect the cultural heritage there from the effects of the war. In addition, the staff and volunteers in Medzhybizh are working tirelessly to support their compatriots in all situations and to offer a varied museum and hands-on programme in the historic fortress, especially for children and war invalids.

In spring 2024, the first donations from the FORTE CULTURA campaign were used to purchase a notebook, which has now been handed over to Oleh Pohorilets, Director of the Medzhybizh Fortress (UA), by Dirk Röder, FORTE CULTURA Vice President and Director of the Cultural Route. The notebook is urgently needed for the administrative work in Medzhybizh.

Oleh Pohorilets emphasised that due to the current situation in Ukraine, many institutions are dependent on such small and large-scale aid from Europe. He thanked “his FORTE CULTURA friends for their great commitment”.

The meeting took place in the city administration of Kostrzyn nad Odra (PL) on the German-Polish border, the place where FORTE CULTURA was founded. The town of Kostrzyn nad Odra is strongly committed to helping Ukraine. Mayor Andrzej Kunt, also FORTE CULTURA Honorary President, and Agnieszka Zurawska-Tatala, FORTE CULTURA Vice President, also took part in the meeting to discuss joint future activities.
