Boyen Fortress was built from 1843 as a Prussian ring fortress in what is now Giżycko, formerly Lötzen, and was one of the most powerful fortresses in Masuria. With numerous exciting cultural events, an open-air theatre, gallery and museum, Boyen Fortress is now a popular excursion destination in the region and is now also part of the European Fortress Monuments FORTE CULTURA® cultural route.
