Von 14 to 17 October 2026, die Fachbereich für Tourismusmanagement der Universität von Maltain Zusammenarbeit mit FORTE CULTURA, will host the FORTE CULTURA Malta Symposium 2026 – Fortified Heritage for Tourism and Leisure at Fort St. Elmo, Valletta.
The Symposium will bring together professionals, researchers, managers, curators, architects, tourism experts and heritage practitioners working with fortified heritage in Europe and beyond. It will be an opportunity to exchange experience on the management, conservation, funding, adaptive reuse and valorisation of fortified heritage sites, with particular attention to tourism and leisure uses.
FORTE CULTURA warmly invites experts, professionals, researchers, site managers and institutions working in the field of fortified heritage to contribute to the Symposium. Presentations are welcome on a wide range of topics, including restoration projects, project funding, adaptive reuse, urban conservation policy, visitor management, tourism potential, architecture, landscape, interpretation and other relevant aspects of fortified heritage.
Contributions may present completed projects, ongoing initiatives, case studies, methodological approaches, management experiences or future-oriented proposals. The organisers also intend to prepare a post-Symposium publication based on the presentations, including a dedicated section on Malta’s fortified heritage.
The programme will combine conference sessions with organised visits to significant fortified heritage sites in Malta. These visits will offer concrete case studies and provide opportunities for discussion directly on site.
Attendance is free, but places are limited. If you are interested, we encourage you to register without delay. Those wishing to give a presentation are invited to indicate this in the registration form.
